Anyone who has ever swept knows that a broom wears down over time. But did you know that this wear directly contributes to the microplastics problem? Every traditional synthetic brush leaves behind tiny particles that remain in our soil and oceans for hundreds of years.
At Jobo, they believe things can be different. That’s why we introduce FORTAN® bristles: a new step toward a plastic-free future, without compromising sweeping performance.

FORTAN® bristles are made from biopolymers. Although every brush sheds particles during use, the key difference lies in the “lifespan” of those particles in nature.
The fibers of FORTAN® are designed so that worn-off particles biodegrade up to 100 times faster than conventional synthetic bristles. The exact rate depends on environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and the activity of microorganisms in the soil.
Conventional bristles are made from fossil-based plastics (such as nylon or polypropylene). During sweeping, tiny particles wear off unnoticed. These microplastics are not broken down by nature and can remain in soil and water for hundreds of years, where they accumulate in the ecosystem.
FORTAN® bristles are made from an innovative biopolymer. They offer the same strength and flexibility as plastic, but with one major difference: the particles released through wear act as “food” for microorganisms. As a result, they break down up to 100 times faster, without leaving harmful residues behind.
FORTAN® bristles are developed and produced within Europe by B4Plastics in Belgium, ensuring traceability and quality control. Their biodegradability has been tested according to ASTM D5988-18, and production follows ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 processes. Developed by: B4Plastics (Belgium)
