The disposability of bioplastics

Many consumers see labels on products such as 'biodegradable' or 'compostable' and feel reassured that they are better for the environment. But is this always the case?

It’s logical to think that when we buy bioplastics, that we are doing the right thing for the environment. However, as was shown in an episode of VRT Factcheckers last December in Belgium, more and more alerting messages are appearing which state that bioplastics aren’t environmentally-friendly or recycled, and get burned anyways.

But is this really such a black and white story? We need to analyze a few factors before we can judge if they really are more sustainable.
